Canadian Power & Sail Oakville Squadron
Wed. Sept. 6 – Day 4
All is going well but tough to adapt sleeping in the noise – even with earplugs – and I can usually sleep through anything! Even though we were leading the race, we decided to head for the Scoring Gate, which would give us 3 bonus points. Unfortunately, it also led us into a «wind hole» slowing us drastically. We were barely moving on water so calm, it looked like ocean Jello. We worked hard all night trimming sails in the light wind to escape the calm. Only moving at 2-3 knots for the next 8 hours, we were happy to find wind again as the sun rose. As you have likely watched on the Race Viewer, this will unfortunately affect our position in the race. But we got the 3 points and still have 700 nm to Spain to catch up the fleet.
The Bay of Biscay is showing its beautiful deep blue. A small whale came to say hello early morning. Unfortunately, I missed it as I was at the nav station, but I’m sure we will see more.

We have heard the Race Viewer can be very addictive, even though it’s only updated once an hour. If you haven’t tuned in yet, here’s the link again
